IP-Atlas vs Fingerprint.com

Fingerprint (formerly FingerprintJS) is a device-identification fraud API with VPN/proxy/incognito detection as "Smart Signals." IP-Atlas is a pure IP-data API. Different categories, but they land on the same shortlist because both answer "is this visitor legit?" — at very different price points.

What each product actually is

Fingerprint.com

Client-side JavaScript agent that fingerprints the device (browser, hardware, network signals) and returns a stable visitor ID plus a bundle of "Smart Signals" (VPN, Tor, incognito, bot, IP blocklists). Pro Plus tier starts at $99/mo for 20,000 identifications. Used by marketplaces, fintech, sportsbooks for account-takeover and multi-account detection.

IP-Atlas

Server-side REST API that takes an IP and returns geolocation, ASN, organisation, VPN flag, datacenter flag. No JS agent on the client. Free tier 2K/day with card; Developer $19/mo for 2M. Used by everything that just needs to answer the IP-level question without paying for device fingerprinting.

When Fingerprint is the right choice

When IP-Atlas is a better fit

They can complement each other. Some teams run Fingerprint on the client for device ID and IP-Atlas server-side for IP-level context — the two signals together are stronger than either alone. We're not competing for the same dollar at the high end; we're competing for budget at the low end where Fingerprint is overkill.
